This allows you to drag and fill screen documents in applications such as Adobe Photoshop™ and then work on broadcast paint direct into a full broadcast monitor.

Never be surprised again when dropping those Photoshop™ graphics into Final Cut Pro™. This is a unique feature available on all DeckLink models!

Real Time Effects

Connect to 10 bit SDI and analog broadcast decks with with DeckLink Extreme.

DeckLink Extreme connects to any deck in broadcast video, because it combines both 10 bit SDI and analog component video into a single compact low cost PCI card that only uses a single PCI slot!

With heaps of extra features such as support for Mac OS X™, Final Cut Pro™, RT Extreme™, Windows XP™ and Adobe Premiere Pro™; DeckLink Extreme might just be the last standard definition broadcast video card you'll ever need to buy!

Extreme Connectivity

Featuring the highest quality 10 bit uncompressed SDI video connections, DeckLink Extreme is the perfect solution for connecting to high end broadcast decks such as Digital Betacam™, D5, and D1. True 10 bit SDI capture retains all the subtle detail in your images, even during the heaviest multi generation rendering and video processing.

When connecting to decks such as Betacam SP™, DeckLink Extreme is the only low cost card to feature full analog component YUV video allowing crisp clean images that take full advantage of Betacam SP's 4:2:2 analog video path. Betacam SP uses digitally processed chroma time domain multiplexing and records colour and luma on separate video heads for the highest quality on analog tape format.

DeckLink allows you to extend the life of this classic tape format in your facility with the ability to instantly connect to more advanced SDI based decks when required using the same hardware card! DeckLink Extreme is designed to capture the full analog signal from Betacam SP while retaining the deep quality of colour and low analog noise that's the trademark of this tape format.

With DeckLink Extreme's 6 separate analog power supplies onboard you'll be amazed at the quality of the images you get from Betacam SP when using DeckLink Extreme.

DeckLink Extreme's amazing analog support also extends to audio. The old classic audio engineering joke that “the pictures just enhance the soundtrack”, is realised with DeckLink Extreme's full 24 bit based professional balanced analog audio on superbly robust XLR connections.

Pro analog XLR based audio connections onboard is an incredible time saver when you need to hook up pro audio mixers or other outboard equipment for that unexpected client voice over. Completing this suite of connections is full speed SPDIF/Unbalanced AES audio output for high quality digital audio monitoring, genlock input and RS-422 serial remote. The RS-422 serial plug features that special metric thread that's standard on deck remote control ports. You won't have to worry about cables dropping out of your deck and messing up your day! It's the little details that makes DeckLink Extreme so special.

Extreme Quality

When it comes to image quality, DeckLink Extreme can't be beaten at any price on any platform. DeckLink Extreme continues the tradition of of using the highest quality 10 bit SDI uncompressed capture and playback to disk; which has become the hallmark of all DeckLink products. This is perfect for heavy processing and makes multi generation rendering virtually artifact free.

Say goodbye to those banding problems caused by colour-space conversions that are common when working with different software tools on computers. 10 bit SDI eliminates the double rounding error when using 8 bit RGB based application software, and then blossoms in quality when used with the 16 bit rendering in applications such as Adobe After Effects™.

Blackmagic Design's founders have a long history of post production editing and engineering. With our experience in high-end telecine and film quality having fed back into our DeckLink range of broadcast video cards.

Our philosophy is about quality and stability - and by focussing on where its needed most. We don't over-engineer our products, instead we strive for perfection in simplicity and stability, ensuring you receive the very best quality at a great low price. By making our technology the most affordable solution, creativity blossoms. Everyone can now afford to experiment with video as a creative medium and with the highest video quality to finish the most demanding work.

Extreme Functionality

DeckLink Extreme is much more than just an NLE card for use with Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro, it also includes our acclaimed Blackmagic Deck Control application. This lets you mark in and out on tape, and automatically capture a selected segment from tape using the serial control port. All the deck control is automatic. You can then place finish renders back to tape from the comfort of your workstation when your job's finished.

Deck Control is bundled free and is great when you're doing web streaming, digital effects, colour correction or broadcast design and you don't use NLE software. Deck Control allows you to complete your workstation without any third party extras.

If your running DeckLink Extreme on Mac OS X you can use our built in HDTV downconversion to make your move to HDTV easier, as you can playback DeckLink HDTV compatible media and Final Cut Pro timelines directly out to the standard definition video outputs. This is an amazing feature not found on low cost cards and is included free on all DeckLink models.

When running on Windows XP with Adobe Premiere Pro you can use our custom deck control components connected via the built in deck control serial port - so you get a complete solution for controlling decks built right into Premiere Pro. There's no need to spend hundreds of dollars on third party deck control software to complete your NLE workstation.

Ever wished you could dub a tape with a live key of company logos or "not for broadcast" messages? DeckLink Extreme also includes our LiveKey application software. LiveKey lets you change the DeckLink Extreme into a live keyer that keys RGB based graphics over input video and outputs with the result showing on both the SDI and analog outputs.

That's great for adding a quick bug, or logo to your demo reels, and makes DeckLink Extreme the perfect partner in live broadcast situations.

Extreme Compatibility

DeckLink Extreme supports both Apple Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows XP for incredible workflow flexibility. Choose the best platform for the work you do everyday. You can also instantly move DeckLink Extreme between systems and platforms allowing you the flexibility to reconfigure your facility as your workflow changes.

Because DeckLink Extreme supports the native video libraries and API's used on Windows and Macintosh platforms, you can use almost any software application for uncompressed video.

On Windows, DeckLink Extreme supports DirectShow and any DirectShow based software and AVI files. DeckLink is also the only uncompressed video card to support QuickTime on Windows for greater cross platform flexibility and file compatibility with Adobe After Effects and Discreet Combustion.

On Apple Mac OS X, DeckLink Extreme uses full QuickTime support which supports a huge range of creative software from Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Combustion, and all the nifty utilities such as VirtualVTRô, Microcosmô and many others. You can share QuickTime files with other DeckLink users on both Windows and Mac.

Extreme Technology

DeckLink Extreme features blazing speed 66 MHz PCI, perfect for the latest computer motherboards. Fast PCI 66 MHz keeps your system's bus running at full speed and reduces speed crippling PCI reconnects that plague other 33 MHz only video cards.

This means SCSI and Fiber Channel disk array cards keep performing at maximum speed; important when doing uncompressed video. Beware of other cheap DeckLink imitators that feature the slower 33 MHz PCI speed which causes your disk array to slow down to half speed when running in newer motherboards.

DeckLink firmware loads at every system boot time, so you're always running the latest firmware and don't need to do risky "flash" style firmware updates. You can download the latest software updates as they are available free from our support page on our web site.

We are constantly adding powerful new features, so you'll always have the benefit of great customer-feedback in every card purchased. Good examples of this are our recently added HDTV to SD down conversion and internal keying support, which were released to all DeckLink customers as a free update!

Cabling a complex post studio can add hundreds of dollars to your system cost. DeckLink Extreme is the only card on the market that includes a long 2 meter (7ft) break out cable that connects direct to your broadcast deck. This saves hundreds of dollars on high quality cabling required for SDI video, pro audio and accurate deck control.

All these cables are neatly encased in a protective sheath and then connect to your computer using a single 'D' type connection. This is the only solution that completely eliminates cable clutter behind your computer, and allows you to instantly disconnect when moving your system.

Blackmagic Design was the first company to support Mac OS X for uncompressed video and the first company to introduce a PCI-X based video card with DeckLink HD. We have the experience to ensure your DeckLink will work as you expect - and keep up with you on the most demanding client requests.

Real Time Effects

Blackmagic DeckLink features real time effects that are great when working on long format work such as episodic television program production. Real Time effects can be updated via internet downloads; with new effects are being released constantly.

Many exciting real time effects are included with the DeckLink. These include Cross Dissolve, Non Additive Dissolve, Additive Dissolve, Fade in Fade out, Dip to Colour, Sepia, Desaturate, Brightness Contrast, Proc Amp, Tint, and Gamma Correction and 3 way colour correction on both 8 bit and 10 bit uncompressed modes. More effects are constantly being added.

On Mac OS X all Final Cut Pro RT Extreme effects are supported and on faster systems, 8 layers of video and real time have been reported by DeckLink customers. RT Extreme allows your DeckLink to be RT future proof as more layers and effects are available as faster host computers are released.

With dual channel SDI, DeckLink HD Pro can switch into the new Dual Link HD 4:4:4 mode allowing full colour resolution, and compatibility with the new Sony SR™ based decks.

Dual Link 4:4:4 video uses 2 HD-SDI channels to carry full colour resolution and is incredible quality. Current HDTV and standard definition video formats are 4:2:2 based, so you only get half the colour resolution of the original image. When running in Dual Link 4:4:4 the additional colour information is carried on the second HD-SDI link, and you get full colour resolution of the original film or graphics. That's perfect for critical keying, heavy effects or feature film work.

Also supported in Dual Link 4:4:4 is extra bit depth up to 12 bits per sample, perfect for feature film work!

Combined with this high quality SDI video, DeckLink HD Pro features the best analog monitoring ever designed. DeckLink HD Pro includes full RGB or YUV analog monitoring that instantly switches between standard definition and high definition modes. This means you can reconfigure without changing the connections to your monitoring, and you eliminate the high cost of HD-SDI monitoring inputs for broadcast monitors.

Because DeckLink HD Pro can be used for standard definition all the way up to HDTV and feature film work, analog monitoring quality needs to be the best possible. DeckLink HD Pro features full 14 bit precision digital to analog conversion, so you always get accurate monitoring of 12 bit log video used in feature film work. Analog monitoring is also full 4:4:4 sampling and uses an incredible 5x oversampling when used for standard definition video.

No external converter or SDI input available today matches the quality of the analog monitoring built right into every DeckLink HD Pro!

Full DVCPRO HD Acceleration
If you don't want to use an expensive disk array for HD, then the new DVCPRO HD feature is perfect. All DeckLink HD models running on Apple Mac OS X™ include full acceleration for DVCHD PRO, as well as full compatibility with Final Cut Pro HD™ real time effects. The quality is truly amazing and is even good enough for online finishing.

File format is true DVCPRO HD DV100 format, you can master to any supported Panasonic™ DVCPRO HD broadcast deck directly via FireWire, and without any de-compression compression cycles. DVCPRO HD video uses an incredible low data rate for an online codec. You can easily edit on a single ATA or FireWire disk and you don't need the heavy disk arrays uncompressed HD files require. We even used an iPod for 1080HD capture and playback, however it's not advised for serious work!

Compressed DVCPRO HD is now available on all DeckLink models, even on the lowest cost DeckLink HD at only US$595! If your already own any DeckLink HD model, then upgrade to Blackmagic DeckLink for Macintosh™ v4.5 for free and start using DVCPRO HD compression today!

Uncompressed 10 bit 4:4:4 RGB Codec
Only Blackmagic DeckLink HD Pro cards include a full uncompressed 10 bit 4:4:4 RGB codec, perfect for feature film work or high end effects and graphic design. RGB workflow has incredible advantages as all illegal video levels cannot be generated and you get full colour detail throughout the production pipeline, perfect for keying and retaining the subtle detail from film. All video software supports rendering in RGB, so you never see level shifts because of YUV to RGB conversions.

Extreme functionality
DeckLink HD Pro is much more than just an NLE card, as it also includes our acclaimed Blackmagic Deck Control application. This lets you mark in and out on tape, and automatically capture a selected segment from tape using the serial control port. All the deck control is automatic. You can then place finished renders back to tape from the comfort of your workstation when your job is completed.

Deck Control is bundled free and is great when you're doing web streaming, digital effects, colour correction or broadcast design and you need to save the cost and complexity of NLE software. Deck Control allows you to complete your workstation without any third party extras.

If you're running DeckLink HD Pro, you can take advantage of built in down conversion for mastering HDTV video edits out to standard definition decks such as Digital Betacam, and D5.

Extreme Technology
DeckLink HD Pro features blazing fast speed PCI-X 133 MHz perfect the the latest computer motherboards. Fast PCI-X 133 MHz keeps your system bus running at full speed and reduces speed crippling PCI reconnects that plague other slower PCI based video cards.

This means SCSI and Fibre Channel disk array cards keep performing at maximum speed; important when doing uncompressed video.

DeckLink firmware loads at every system boot time, so you are always running the latest firmware, and don't need to do risky "flash" style firmware updates. You can download the latest software updates free from the Blackmagic Design web site. We are constantly adding powerful new features, so you always have the benefit of our customer feedback, even after purchasing the card.

DeckLink HD Pro is the worlds first PCI-X 133 MHz 4:4:4 HDTV card, and is the only card to include incredible 14 bit RGB/YUV analog monitoring with standard definition compatibility.

Blackmagic Design's dream of affordable high end creative tools means DeckLink HD Pro is affordable for everyone. Affordability allows creativity to blossom, and DeckLink HD Pro is an industry revolution!

Independent Monitoring
DeckLink features independent connections for your monitor and broadcast deck. Even when you don't have an expensive broadcast deck available you can still have full SDI video, and SPDIF audio monitoring. That's perfect when working on real time effects such as 10 bit 3-way colour correction in Final Cut Pro™!

If you're in a smaller facility and you hire in a deck when it's required, or your in a large post or broadcast facility where you often lose deck access when it's routed to another suite, then you will really appreciate independent monitoring. DeckLink is the only card that lets you keep working when the deck is unavailable.

DeckLink's SDI video monitoring output can be connected to any SDI video monitor, or even converted to analog for video monitoring using an external converter.

If your need analog Y, R-Y, B-Y or NTSC/PAL monitoring but don't want to purchase an external converter, then check out DeckLink Pro which is identical to the original DeckLink, however includes built in analog monitoring, and external genlock! If your connecting to analog decks then check out DeckLink SP, ideal for connecting to analog decks and broadcast systems.

DeckLink includes SPDIF/Unbalanced AES digital audio monitoring output which is compatible with common consumer audio equipment and professional audio products; such as speakers and mixing consoles. SPDIF has pro audio bits set in the data stream making it compatible with unbalanced AES/EBU audio equipment, providing incredible audio quality in both playback and capture modes.

Video Desktop
One of the most fun features of the Blackmagic DeckLink is the video desktop.

When not being used in applications such as Final Cut Pro™ you get a fully featured desktop display output as video from the DeckLink SDI video output.
