Blackmagic Design announced that the company has been awarded Video System Magazine´s "Vanguard" 2005 award for the company´s Multibridge Extreme breakout box. Multibridge bidirectional A/D and D/A converters allow editors to switch seamlessly between HD and SD material, with support for dual-link HD-SDI 4:4:4. Ideal for post-production suites that work in both analog and digital, as well as SD and HD, the Multibridge easily converts analog equipment to SDI-based systems by simultaneously converting from digital to analog and analog to digital at the same time.

As stated in Video Systems´ announcement, "Blackmagic has been on a streak for the last few years, releasing a sequence of capture/playback products that have grown in functionality with the expanding power of camcorders and NLEs." Out of the thousands of products seen by Video Systems´ judges, only fifteen products were determined to "help make affordable HD production a reality," and to receive the prestigious "Vanguard" award.

"We are honored that the judges of Video Systems´ Vanguard 2005 Award selected Multibridge Extreme to receive this prestigious award," said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic. "The selection of Multibridge Extreme validates the hard work by our engineering team and shows that Blackmagic continues to lead the way with innovative tools to facilitate affordable, professional post-production. We would like to thank Video Systems and its team of industry professionals for the tremendous effort they expended in reviewing the thousands of products in 2005, and their recognition of Multibridge Extreme."

The Multibridge Extreme has quickly become one the most highly recognized converters in the post-production space since its introduction at NAB 2005. The Multibridge Extreme breakout box connects to editing systems via PCI Express boards. At 10GBps, the connection is 25 times faster than FireWire. Multibridge Extreme includes 8 channels of AES/EBU and two channels of professional analog audio, and two unbalanced audio outputs for 5.1 surround sound monitoring.

Based on high speed PCI Express connections that are 25 times faster than Firewire based solutions, the Multibridge can be used as the world´s highest quality converter or as a stand-alone editing system. Multibridge can be rack mounted and used for converting analog equipment such as Betacam SP decks of HDV cameras, in HD or SD. Also, when connected via PCI Express to a host computer for capture and playback, the Multibridge´s high performance allows for capture and play back completely uncompressed, allowing better quality than any other system, at any price.
