Canopus ADVC-50

Pinnacle Systems DV500 Plus V. 4.0
Pinnacle has released DV500 drivers version 4. This is the full release version that is now shipping with the DV500 DVD. These and previous versions of the DV500 drivers can be downloaded from either Pinnacle's website or Planet PC's website.
Driver features include:
TurboMPEG Export
The export of MPEG2 format video for DVD and MPEG2-CD production with Pinnacle Impression has been greatly accelerated. Depending on your system, it is up to twice as fast as in previous versions. For areas of the timeline that do not contain effects, the MPEG2 export now approaches real time performance.
Pinnacle Scene Cutter
This filter allows you to quickly split a long video clip into scenes. Pinnacle Scene Cutter will automatically detect scene changes by analyzing the contents of the video using motion-tracking algorithms.
MPEG2 editing
This version of the DV500 Plus software allows you to edit MPEG2 video directly in the Premiere timeline, simply by importing MP2 video and/or WAV or MPA audio files. These may be mixed freely with DV AVI files. MPEG2 editing allows you to quickly make modifications to clips that have already been exported using the Pinnacle DVD or MPEG2-CD presets. Once these modifications are done, another export using the same preset will only render the parts that have been modified. Untouched parts of the MPEG2 material will simply be copied, preserving their quality and speeding up the export process.
Bug Fixes
The following issues have been fixed in this version of the DV500 Plus software:
- The MPEG2 export is no longer limited to 4Mbit/s.
- Compatibility of the "overlay surface" preview using the Adobe Premiere monitor window has been improved.
- The DV500 Plus Video for Windows DV codec has now been verified to work with FlaskMPEG and VirtualDub.
- There is no longer a crash when importing a large number of AVI files, even when their audio tracks are faulty.
IMPORTANT: This version requires Premiere 6. Older versions of Premiere have not been tested and may not work correctly. In addition, support for Windows NT has not been tested and is no longer guaranteed.
Canopus DVStorm Drivers v1.05 (Win98SE/NT4.0/2000/ME/XP)
Canopus has released v1.05 drivers for the DVStorm. These are the current version of the drivers that ship with the DVStorm.
Driver features include:
Fixed error on setting up of driver in certain systems.
Fixed error on switching to S-Video in certain conditions using JD-1.
Supports Analogue capture feature working as Video for Windows capture driver.
New Premiere Edit Plug-in functionality:
Supports 5 streams real-time playback.
In order to receive real-time functionality with 5 simultaneous streams of video, you must be using a system with the following minimum specifications:
Pentium III 1GHz Dual or Pentium 4 2GHz or over
Athlon 2000+ or over
Video storage @ 24MB/sec sustained transfer rate
SCSI Ultra 160 RAID recommended
384MB RAM (512MB RAM recommended)
To install either version 1.04 or 1.05:

Please also make sure you have QuickTime 4 installed - if you are unsure, you can download the QuickTime 4 installer from here.
Windac Digital Audio Copy
If you use music from CDs within your edits you may find Windac useful. Windac is a very useful time saving tool that extracts audio from audio CDs faster than real-time. It then converts the audio track into a Wave (.wav) file that can be imported straight into Adobe Premiere or other editing software. It will copy a four-minute track in about thirty seconds. Windac is Shareware that you can test for a period of 30 days after which it must be registered. It can be loaded from one of the Planet PC software CDs that we bundle with every system and capture card or may be download it from ww.windac.de.

| Planet PC Canopus Open Evening |
|
On the 15th August 2002 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm we are hosting an Open Evening Event covering the Canopus ADVC100, ADVC50, Procoder and DV Storm.
The event will follow the successful format of our previous open evenings, commencing with registration and a formal presentation of the Canopus products.
Following a break for buffet style refreshments, we will then proceed with live demos and a questions and answers forum. The evening will be rounded off with a presentation of special offers!
You will also have the opportunity to enter into the Canopus Summer Roadshow Prize Draw, with a first price of approx. £700 of Canopus hardware!
The winner of the draw will be announced by Canopus later this summer.
These events are usually very oversubscribed and with this in mind, we would politely request that only those of you who are considering purchasing products book a place.
