Grass Valley Canopus HDSTORM / PLUS HDMI-based Editing Adobe Acrobat Pdf Brochuremore information
Value Added!value added !

A single PCI Express form factor board and packaged with a full version of the latest EDIUS editing software, HDSTORM allows you to work with HDMI inputs and outputs and has a Canopus HQ hardware codec built-in for optimized, CPU-free capture and export of files.

HDSTORM empowers you with constantly synched, full-resolution preview of effects and content directly from the EDIUS timeline. The power of having the Canopus HQ codec on-board means you won’t be restricted by CPU speeds or workstation limitations when ingesting or creating high-quality Canopus HQ AVI files for editing. Keeping the compression processing separate from your CPU brings new reliability and system performance to the editing and effects creation environment.

Working as a perfect combination of software and hardware, HDSTORM can handle any mix of HD and SD video content; unlimited video, audio, title, and graphics layers; and any combination of real-time effects.

If you are still making the transition to an all-digital, high-definition workflow, you can purchase the optional HDSTORM Bay (see opposite) at any time, to add a comprehensive set of analog inputs and outputs.
The HDSTORM Bay is included as standard with the full HDSTORM Plus package.

Onboard Canopus HQ Codec Chip – Capture and Encode with the Best
Already a prominent part of the EDIUS software legacy, the Canopus HQ codec offers supreme visual quality without the excessive hard disk storage costs normally associated with HD video ingest. With HDSTORM, you can be assured that the HD video content you output from your HD sources will be perfectly preserved, ready for you to either edit, author to DVD or Blu-ray, or store for later usage. Because the input quality is so clean, subsequent conversions to other distribution formats—such as mobile phones or the Web—are cleaner too.

Minimum System Requirements
HDSTORM is capable of editing both SD and HD content in real time, however the system requirements for real-time HD editing are significantly higher than for SD editing. The requirements shown here are for real-time HD editing.

Key Features:-

  • HDMI input/output for connectivity with HDMI devices and real-time monitoring from the included EDIUS editing software
  • Works with many different native video formats, including DV, HDV, AVCHD, uncompressed, and more
  • Real-time SD/HD resolution, aspect ratio and frame rate conversion and output, including 16:9 to 4:3 and NTSC to PAL
  • Real-time SD/HD effects, keyers, transitions and titles
  • Supports newer file-based formats, including Infinity JPEG 2000, XDCAM and XDCAM EX, P2 (DVCPRO and AVC-Intra), and GFCAM
  • Onboard Canopus HQ hardware encoder for fast, high-quality capture and export of video to Canopus HQ AVI files
  • Bay option for HD/SD analog component, S-Video, and composite input/output (included as standard with HDSTORM Plus)
  • Compatible with Windows® XP and Windows Vista
HDSTORM Plus

An optional (5.25-inch) bay is also available (included as standard with HDSTORM Plus). The bay not only features additional connectors for HDMI devices, but also input and output connectors for analog HD/SD component, S-Video, composite, and unbalanced audio; this helps those still working in analog to make the transition to digital and HD production.

Package Contents (HDSTORM):

  • HDSTORM (HQX-E1) PCI Express x1 bus card
  • EDIUS software installation disc set (DVD-ROM)
  • EDIUS USB dongle
  • EDIUS QuickStart guide
  • Hardware setup manual
Package Contents (HDSTORM Bay):

  • 5.25-inch HDSTORM Bay
  • HDSTORM Bay connector cable
  • 2 x miniDIN to RCA converter cables (S-Video to composite)
See Adobe Acrobat pdf datasheet (left) for more information.

Create Portable and DVD-ready Video - Blazingly Fast!

Engineered with hardware-based MPEG encoding technology, and designed with a PCI Express form factor, FireCoder generates MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 files at blistering, faster-than-realtime speeds.

FireCoder is as versatile, as it is speedy! Use FireCoder to:

  • Capture video from DV and HDV cameras
  • Edit MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, including native HDV
  • Author and burn DVDs
  • Convert video into files compatible with Apple iPod® and Sony PSP™
  • Export video projects from Grass Valley EDIUS and Adobe® Premiere® Pro 1.x NLE software
Even with today's high-speed PCs, the time you spend waiting for your video projects to encode to MPEG format for DVDs or portable media devices can still stretch out to unbearable lengths. Instead of relying solely on the PC's CPU (as do software-only video editing, DVD authoring and format conversion products), the onboard MPEG encoding chip engineered into the FireCoder PCI Express board handles the tough encoding tasks.

The advantages of FireCoder are two-fold:
  • Speed - Create MPEG-2 files for DVDs and MPEG-4 files for portable media devices much faster - often more than twice the speed of realtime in most cases.
  • Productivity - Free up your CPU for other work, while your video is being encoded
Key Features:-
  • MPEG-2/MPEG-4 encoding hardware technology, incorporated into a high-speed PCI Express design
  • Faster-than-realtime MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video file creation
  • IEEE 1394 OHCI FireWire input for DV and HDV capture
  • Cut, stitch and trim MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and HDV video
  • Video format conversion software, supporting Windows Media®, DivX®, DV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and more
  • DVD authoring, "Watch" folder and batch conversion support
  • Timeline export plug-ins for Grass Valley EDIUS, Adobe Premiere 6.5 and Adobe Premiere Pro 1.x

Supporting realtime, hardware-based MPEG encoding and software-based MPEG decoding, MVRD2200V also includes an updated SDK, providing full board function control and backwards-compatibility for Amber and MediaEdge SDK-based applications.
  • MVRD2200V supports both Main Profile at Main Level (MP@ML) MPEG-2 and I-frame-only encoding. When using MP@ML, the MVRD2200V delivers the high-quality video and audio MPEG-2 output required by today's video professionals. MP@ML features true IBP frame format, which provides the highest-quality video at the lowest bandwidth. In addition, MVRD2200V's variable bitrate capability (from 1Mbps to 15Mbps) is one of the most effective techniques used to maintain video quality while reducing file size. With composite and S-Video inputs, MVRD2200V is scalable up to full-D1 resolution with NTSC and PAL format support.
  • The software utilities included with MVRD2200V are MPEG Station, capture and playback application, and a DV AVI-to-MPEG file conversion utility. MPEG Station provides full resolution overlay for previewing footage during capture and features a detailed selection of encoding quality settings for users to adjust to meet their requirements.
