Carbon Coder is a file-based transcoding application that facilitates the transfer of media between acquisition, editing, playout, archive, Web, mobile and more. Supporting all major formats (currently more than 40), Carbon Coder is continually updated to accommodate new formats. Carbon Coder can run as a stand-alone application or as part of a multi-node, fully-automated rendering farm under the control of Carbon Server or the Rhozet Workflow System (WFS).

As part of the transcode process, Carbon Coder handles a wide array of critical operations including SD/HD conversion, PAL/NTSC conversion, logo insertion, colour space conversion, colour correction, Close Captioning extraction and more. Carbon Coder provides high-performance, scalable and cost-effective transcoding for a broad range of business environments, from specialised studios to enterprise-scale installations. Carbon Coder can be run via its user interface or via an XML-based API that is included with the product. The same API controls both Carbon Coder and the Rhozet Workflow System (WFS).

What's new in v3.16?

• Multiple Audio Program support for H.264 Exporter/ Importer and Smooth Streaming Exporter.
  
• CEA-708 Caption support for Omneon Exporter/Importer (MXF & MOV) and H.264 Exporter/Importer.
  
• A new Video Filter that allows for insertion of V-Chip XDS information into the Carbon pipeline in the caption/708 payload. Other filters such as the Line 21 Modulator video filter can then use the data from the caption/708 payload, such as in this example inserting it into line 21 of the VBI of output files.
  
• A new optional Audio Filter that allows Dolby-E encoding for any Carbon Coder Exporter supporting an Uncompressed or PCM audio format. This filter requires a separately purchased license, please see your sales account manager or reseller for more information.
  
• The new Timecode Processing filter can correct, clean up, or synchronise the timecode payload with time sources other than the source file.

• File-Based Transcoding Software
  Uses a file-based workflow engine. All of its abilities are based on the acquisition, transformation, and delivery of files.
  
• Intuitive User Interface
  Carbon Coder's intuitive interface gives you complete control over every aspect of the transcoding process.
  
• Automated Operation
  Carbon Coder can be run in a fully automated mode. Watch folders and FTP transfers can be configured to automatically transcode any files that are moved to specified locations, and then the results can be placed into designated locations.
  
• Scalable Transcoding
  For large transcoding tasks, multiple Carbon Coders can be configured as a transcoding farm, under the control of Carbon Server software.
  
• XML-based SDK
  Carbon Coder and Carbon Server can be controlled directly via an XML-based SDK provided with the software. Every aspect of the transcoding process can be controlled by the SDK, including source/target destinations, transcoding parameters, filtering, compositing, ad insertion, titling, notifications, etc.

High-Speed Distributed Enterprise Transcoding

Multiple Carbon Coder nodes can be configured as a rendering farm, controlled by one or more Carbon Servers. Distributed enterprise transcoding with Carbon Server provides maximum flexibility, future-proofing and cross-vendor interoperability. Carbon Server allows for automated processing of high-volume transcoding tasks, as well as pre-emptive special case jobs, managing job distribution, job prioritisation, load balancing, FTP transfer, status monitoring, and job notification.

All interaction with the server software is through an administrative Web interface that can be accessed from remote machines. Carbon Sever can be run via its user interface or via an XML-based API that is included with the product. The same API controls both Carbon Coder and Carbon Server.

The Rhozet Quality Control System (QCS), automated quality control engine, allows customers to add automated and scalable video verification processes to their transcoding farm. QCS analyses each and every file to help identify possibly problematic files both before and after the transcode process. This leads to a much more efficient QC process for file-based workflows by focusing the task down to only files with potential problems.

As an add on to Rhozet Workflow System (WFS) and Carbon Coder, QCS is embedded into the transcoding workflow providing the most efficient and scalable method for assessment and verification of video assets by monitoring every step in the workflow.
