Now featuring SATA II drives the 4210S replaces the previous 4210 model. The MediaVault 4210S 4Gbit FC products are a market-proven RAID disk arrays capable of sustaining 250MB/sec per interface. A single MediaVault channel will record and play back 1080i HD 10 bit video or 4 uncompressed SD video streams, and the dual channel 4210S, which doubles the above rates, sets industry standards in content creation, being scalable to the point of delivering up to 4k film resolution playback to the desktop.

Each channel of the 4210S is configurable in either RAID0 mode for performance, or RAID3 mode for data protection. The array comes complete with 5 removable SATA II drive caddies per channel (10 caddies in total), and dual redundant removable power supplies. It is compatible with Mac, Windows, Unix and Linux platforms, as well as major brands of video editing, capture and playback cards/devices.

The new expansion feature of the MediaVault 4Gbit product enables physical connection of multiple units on the same host system interface in a "daisychain" fashion, giving the user the capability of read and write speeds of up to 380MB/s per interface, and capacity expansion to several tens of Terabytes of data and hours of video or film resolution footage.

Fibre Channel dramatically simplifies installations offering smaller, simpler cables, allowing more resilience to signal interference, and enabling much greater cable distances than parallel SCSI. Moreover, Fibre Channel supports multiple topologies, including point-to-point, arbitrated loop, and switched fabric, enabling the MediaVault to operate equally effectively in direct attached or storage area network (SAN) environments (SAN software sold separately). You don’t have to worry about existing Fibre Channel infrastructure either MediaVault’s 4Gb interface is backwards compatible with 2Gb and 1Gb Fibre Channel components.

MediaVault allows you to select either RAID 0 or RAID 3 to match the performance and reliability best suited for the application. Utilise RAID 0 (striped drives) to achieve the greatest performance, or utilise RAID 3 (data protected) for excellent performance and the added protection of no performance degradation and no data loss if a drive fails. Huge Systems’ highly efficient RAID engine performs rebuilds of failed drives in the background—with easy service and upgrade.
