Atomos Samurai Blade 10-bit HD-SDI Field Recorder and HD Monitor

The Atomos Samurai Blade is a camera-mounted recorder, monitor, wfm & deck for HD-SDI Cameras. It has a 5" SuperAtom IPS Panel and is made out of aircraft grade aluminium.

The Atomos Samurai Blade has the new SuperAtom IPS screen and has full size BNC connectors which make it an even more attractive prospect

The Atomos Samurai Blade can take either 2.5" Hard Disks or SSD drives, it is made from aircraft grade aluminium, it supports your make and model of Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, JVC, RED & Arri.

Using HDD at 1TB means it can record high quality footage and get away from the hassles of changing memory cards and increase the quality at the same time. At Avid 36 you can record up to 48 hrs on a 1TB drive! Flexible and affordable long and short recording, the adaptability you need in the field, on the road and in the studio.

If you want to edit, use CG or 3D effects, green screen or add titles and transitions, these will all be 12 bit or more. If you record 8 bit like most cameras, when the 12 bit or higher graphic is inserted on the time line, the colours are “crushed” down to 8-bit, making the result extremely poor quality! Not very Professional at all. The Blade bypasses the 8 bit and record 10 bit colour registries to ensure your video plays nicely with all computer effects.

The way the OS is designed is very intuitive, hot swap drives at any time without having to play games with the OS. Eject anytime, change drives and even take drives from any edit suite or recorder (even non Atomos ones) and you can play out to any monitor or on screen for review - a true digital deck.

Features Include:

  • • 325 dpi SuperAtom IPS 1 million pixel touch-screen for sharpness, brightness, and rich blacks
  • • Recording of 10-bit 4:2:2 directly to ProRes or DNxHD with 2.5″ HDD or SSD
  • • Standard BNC connectors
  • • Full waveform / vectorscope
  • • Adjustable gamma
  • • Real-time monitoring
  • • Focus assist, zebra and false colour monitoring
  • • S-log/C-log recording
  • • Trigger rec/stop from camera
  • • Timecode from camera
  • • Hot swap drives
  • • Cutting and tagging clips within the unit

Everything I needed and more...

Great external recorder and monitor. I'm using my Samurai Blade with my Sony EX3 and my Canon 5D3 (via the H2S converter for the 5D3). It works perfect with both. I was able to replace my other HDMI to SDI converter + monitor and make the 5D rig even lighter. All of the focus assist and exposure features come in very handy - especially with the 5D3. There is a 5 frame video LAG on the 5D3 output so I asked the folks at Atomos if they were going to add any kind of audio delay to the firmware to help sync things up during recording and my timing was perfect as they were releasing 5.0.3 that day - came with both a delay function and way better audio meters. I bought 2 NP-F970 batteries and Dual Channel charger to go with the kit and now can run pretty much all day. I use both a 500gig spinning HDD and a 256gig SSD. The SSD is for my more active shoots and the HDD is if I'm sitting in one place all day. All in all, I think this is a great unit and will work well for me over the next few years. Great job ATOMOS!!
