Planet DV has a rich history of delivering video technology solutions to sporting bodies. We have supplied acquisition equipment, cross platform video editing equipment, content management and delivery platforms as well as complex sports analysis systems.

We have worked with a number of premier league football clubs, cricket clubs and rugby clubs as well as many of the elite Team GB organisations.

Our involvement with The England Rugby Football Union spans many years, initially in partnership with our sports analysis partner CSIR with portable video analysis solutions. Over the years they have also purchased cameras, video recorders, monitors and editing suites. They use this equipment to produce corporate videos for their website and also for internal training and development. The high pressure involved in Team GB sports along with the rapidly changing video industry requires them to ensure a fast turnaround on their projects. It has been the expert advice and reliable support from Planet DV over the years that continues to position us as their chosen video technology supplier.

Sport today is worth billions and the difference between failure and success for athletes can be minuscule in terms of performance and vast in terms of earnings. Sports analysis therefore has a massive footprint in modern sport and can represent the difference between success and failure.

Planet DV has worked with a number of organisations to deliver sports analysis. CSIR based in South Africa have used our video capture and acquisition equipment to cover and analyse sports such as rugby, cricket and football using their bespoke analysis tools such as Crickstat, Rugbystat and Soccerstat. Prozone based in Leeds have used our streaming servers to deliver national video analysis for Premier League Football and Major League Baseball clubs.

We have worked closely with the English Institute of Sport since 2004 and when they were looking for a media streaming and archiving solution, Stafford Murray their Head of Performance Analysis and Biomechanics contacted us for a solution. We were able to supply them with a bespoke version of our Planet eStream product so that their sports analysts could archive events and training footage and make this available to coaches for work with their athletes. They particularly like the chapter insertion feature which allows the analyst to add markers/chapters at any given point within the video footage and then add these events to a playlist for 24/7 on demand viewing by athletes in any location worldwide.

We have also worked with a number of study support centres. These are educational facilities similar to City Learning Centres but are attached to a sports club who provide funding for them. These study centres provide both children and adults in the local area access to innovative technology equipment that they would not normally have access to. We have provided live video production equipment into a number of these establishments as well as following up with training to ensure maximum uptake. One such organisation is Study Parks with centres based at Glandford Park home of Scunthorpe United, Heslam Park home to the Rugby teams and Scunthorpe Town Cricket Club. In an extract from a report on the success of the equipment we supplied to Study Parks featured in the Scunthorpe Telegraph on Oct 14th 2011, Scunthorpe United Football Club Manager Alan Knill said “Youngsters really relate to film and television, so I think this is an innovative way to help them develop their skills in a variety of areas. The new studio is filled with a huge range of technology which will certainly enhance their learning and give them a head start in terms of media technology.”
