Public Sector

Planet DV is a key supplier of broadcast video technologies to the public sector. Client needs in our public sector division range from simple off the shelf procurement via our comprehensive web store to complex and bespoke project requirements. Our solutions architects and technical sales team work closely with clients to specify innovative and often unique video solutions to meet project requirements. Over the years we have been involved in many interesting projects predominantly within healthcare, emergency services, libraries, museums and government agencies.

Our healthcare projects have ranged from the supply of high end video editing equipment to medical illustration departments within a number of healthcare trusts to complex streaming media projects. An example of the latter was a project enabling live streams from operating theatres via laparoscopic cameras to seminar rooms and teaching facilities for the benefit of medical students. This footage was also archived for reference or retrieval later via our bespoke Planet eStream media streaming and archive solution.

Within emergency services, we have worked with the fire service to mount camera and recording kits into fire engines to enable the fire officers to record evidential video footage at incident scenes. On a similar theme, we have also worked with police helicopter units for whom we have created a bespoke video archiving solution for storage of the evidential video footage captured by the helicopter’s onboard camera systems including HD. We have also installed a live video capture and replay solution into a police firearms training centre which records the training scenario footage concurrently with the live observation feeds of the trainees’ exercises.

We have worked with several government agencies and departments including The Cabinet Office, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Health Protection Agency and the Met Office.

We have supplied the Met Office over a number of years predominantly with AJA capture and play out devices for the broadcast of weather; and more recently helped them set up a number of unique solutions for recording weather forecasts in-house. As with any organisation involved in delivering content, the Met Office are always looking for ways to enhance and improve the way that they deliver their information. On a daily basis they are responsible for delivering weather forecasts to clients in many sectors including aviation, transport, oil and local councils. This has traditionally been communicated via email but now with the help of Planet DV they have a small in-house studio setup for recording these forecasts digitally so that they can be delivered in the form of short video presentations. An important factor in specifying equipment for this project was the recognition that the users of the facility are meteorologists and not broadcast video experts and thereby ensuring ease of use of the equipment.

This project has been a great success and the solution was later replicated in a mobile format which The Met Office take out to schools and shows nationwide to provide students with hands on experience of weather forecasting thus generating enthusiasm and interest in meteorology amongst young people.

Planet DV offer a comprehensive service to our Public Sector clients with competitive pricing, high levels of knowledge and support, excellent customer service and the unique ability to scale equipment back to make it usable by non-video experts.
