Planet DV has been supplying commercial organisations with broadcast video technologies for nearly twenty years and has built an extensive and loyal client base in this sector. We have a very broad commercial client list ranging from SME video production companies right through to top level broadcasters and global blue-chip organisations. In addition to the obvious areas of our focus; production, post production, broadcasting, creative and design industries, we are active in a number of key lateral commercial sectors where there is an ever expansive use for video technologies in-house. These areas include banking and finance, legal, ICT and managed services, manufacturing, news agencies, publishing and media, events management, advertising, marketing and communications.

Our start up back in 1993 coincided with the launch by a number of manufacturers of video capture technology that was cost effective enough to make digital video editing accessible for the masses. In our early years, systems integration was a key area for us and we had a focus on integrating new capture technology with our custom built PCs to deliver bespoke editing workstations for our clients. This was a complex process back then and has developed and evolved enormously over the years. The nineties were an exciting era for independent videographers and SME production and post production companies as cutting edge fully featured technology was suddenly available to them. Comprehensive tasks that had previously been outsourced could now be performed in-house to a very high standard. During this era of the advent of digital video, we built a large customer base, many of whom still buy from us today. Twenty years on, we are still a respected systems integrator, but we are now able to offer our customers so much more… We now offer fully project managed TV studio installations and have also developed our own innovative complementary products. Our range includes the Planet MovieBox series of mobile studio solutions and Planet eStream - the complete solution for live media streaming, archiving, IPTV, Freeview recording, digital signage and conference capture.

By combining technologies from leading manufacturers in the industry with our own products and expertise, we provide a unique resource for commercial clients covering the complete spectrum of creative media, from content acquisition and re-purposing, right through to archiving and distribution.

To compliment our systems integration business, we now also work with leading manufacturer Editshare to specify, install and support complete managed shared storage networks, ideal for post production houses. We have recently completed four major shared storage installations for facilities houses looking to streamline their workflow and allowing them to edit seamlessly, safe in the knowledge that their data is managed and backed up. We have been privileged to have worked on a number of interesting commercial projects over the years. In 2008 Planet DV was chosen to supply the equipment for Johnson Press PLC’s ‘Newsroom of the Future’ project. This project was designed to transform their 309 newspapers and 317 websites to enhance them with multimedia content. For this we supplied packaged solutions including high definition cameras, voice recorders, VTRs and editing software. The choice of supplier for this project was not just based on price but also on the ability to offer a comprehensive support and logistics package for their regional offices.

Many of our corporate clients have set up their own in-house live production facilities and one of our clients, global news agency Thompson Reuters, embarked on this process initially back in 2010. This project has evolved since conception and we continue to provide them with their ongoing camera and acquisition equipment. We have also installed a full lighting and chroma key setup with live video production in their London Canary Wharf offices. When British Telecom identified the requirement for streaming live video feeds around their call centres and integrating these feeds into their digital signage system, they chose Planet eStream - our own unique media streaming solution for their needs. They selected Planet eStream because of its simple intuitive user interface and very low bandwidth requirements. They are also intending to roll out the use of the Planet eStream dual encoding feature for their conference capture and for training events in coming months. Planet eStream has also recently been deployed at HR Wallingford a world leader in analysis, advice and support in engineering and environmental hydraulics, and in the management of water and the environment. HR Wallingford came to us with the requirement to monitor and archive video data from remote sites around the world. We were able to fulfil their requirements for this project by supplying video encoders to be installed in required locations and creating individual user logins via the powerful central Planet eStream administration site. This enabled their customers to be able to log in to the system securely and view the video stream live from the remote site. Planet DV is a truly innovative company that consistently research, develop and provide solutions for many commercial applications. Our company offers breadth and experience and thereby an excellent specialist technology partner and supplier for our commercial clients.
